Never Too Early

Perhaps more important than the realization that it’s never too late to pursue (y)our dreams is the realization that it’s never too early. Over and over again, we respond to our calling with “I’ll think about it” or “maybe later.” I can’t and don’t blame us. The first step is the hardest. Why? Because it requires that we overcome our doubt, our fear, our guilt, our shame; whatever it is that’s holding us back.
We sometimes resist the effort and courage it takes to overcome this inertia, often inventing whatever excuse we can to avoid the struggle. We tell ourselves that we’ll “make it happen” once we have our shit together. It’s comforting to convince ourselves that one day we’ll “have our shit together,” even though deep down we understand that there will always be some level of instability; some level of uncertainty.
The trick to acting now is to embrace the instability and uncertainty; to see in them the potential for learning. It is when we adopt this mindset that we become empowered to take the first step while letting go of our obsession over the steps to follow.
